I went to Comic Con and all I got was this lousy pen.

I have now been back for 3 days and I am still hungover from Comic Con. The lack of sleep and the intense adrenaline and rush of the convention can really wipe you out at the end of it. Needless to say though I had a blast as always.

Day one for me was Thursday and we go in on the train which is honestly the way to travel to Comic Con, no need to worry about a car, parking or traffic. When we exited our train who did we see none other than lil' Kaley Cuoco and we knew it had begun. Wandered around downtown SD and made our way to the convention center, one thing to say about this years Comic Con was that Scott Pilgrim took over.





You couldn't look around without some sort of Scott Pilgrim advertisment being shoved down your throat (and I didn't mind) I was glad I had finished the series before so I could really enjoy what they had to offer from making personalized tshirts, to custom flipbooks, and awesome signings Scott Pilgrim was the ultimate. Edgar Wright also suprised Congoers with an exclusive screening of the movie 3 nights in a row and the cast was in attendance. At the Scott Pilgrim experience they even had a garlic bread truck which we all know SP loves garlic bread. Here are some photos from the event.



After Scott Pilgrim we headed back to the hotel and change because there is no place that can make you feel stinkier and stickier than Comic Con, it's just something about the air. Then we headed to the Machete party where it was free beers, tequila and a good ol' taco truck. We saw a few minutes of footage of the new Robert Rodriguez movie and let me say Michelle Rodriguez looks pretty bad ass. Robert, Michelle and Danny Trejo were all in attendance as well as this man we befriended. We all prefer to call him "Batchete" he was wearing a Batman mask and cape and a "Machete" tshirt. People seemed to get a huge kick out of a bunch of girls dancing with him and let me say "Only at Comic Con will you see that type of shit.







After the party and some sobering up (lol) we headed out to stake out some places and ended up getting pretty lucky and meeting everyone from Paul Wesley to Nelsan Ellis and seeing the likes of many others. Only Comic Con can you see Harrison Ford and Pauley Shore in the same day. Up next day two.... Same bat time same bat channel

My Nightmare

Went and saw the new "Nightmare on Elm Street" last night at a free screening. I tried to walk into the movie with little to no expectations since we all know that remakes usually never live up to the originals. Well the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake I thought was actually great and that was put out by Platinum Dunes also, but don't get to excited they are also the same company that put of the "Friday the 13th" remake.

The movie is thrown together kinda of like an unorganized hodgepodge of events. There is no real character development and you actually don't care about anyone in the cast. The new "Nancy" is this emo girl that is just not endearing and you don't care if she lives or dies, where as the old "Nancy" you actually liked her and you saw her growth throughout the movie. The pace of the film is all over the place and they seem to catch on to the events so quickly and just instantly believe they're all having this same dream about the same man and he's killing them in their sleep and everyone just so quickly buys into it. In the original it takes a lot of convincing for anyone to believe it's really happening, I mean Johnny Depps character doesn't believe at all, until it's to late. The climax is also just so anti climactic, and it wraps up so fast. I had read a lot of early trip reports about the movies and also reviews from test screenings and it sounds like a lot of scenes had been written and filmed and changed various times and a lot of scenes have been cut or altered from the first version. I would LOVE to see that version since they think this version they put out is an improvement.

Lets discuss Jackie Earl Hayley's rendition of Freddy Kreuger now there is no doubt that he is a great actor and does amazing jobs in his movies. But would you really be frightened by Rorschach w/ knives for fingers and a man that probably weights 130 wet and stands at 5'0? They have kept the details of his face tightly under wraps and I was excited to see how technology would change and hopefully improve his face. I think the makeup and effects were amazing but alas Robert Englunds makeup was better. This time around Freddy Kreuger does look more like a burn victim but he also has so many feline features it reminded me of the people from Stephen Kings "Sleepwalkers" This Freddy is a lot darker and there aren't "as many" Freddy jokes as in years past. But also they divulge into his back story and you learn a tad more about his history with children which was interesting and gave you the willies a lot more with the new Freddy. He wasn't as scary because of his appearance this time around but rather the history was of him was creepy.

Would I have been happy if I had paid for the movie, eh maybe. But Platinum Dunes, you fail again. This is one instance where I would rather watch the original. Robert Englund and Wes Craven for the win!

God makes amazing things

A few weeks back we took an impromptu trip up to Yosemite with some friends of ours. It was a really nice get away and it was quite convinient that the cell phone reception up there is really bad. So for a weekend I was pretty shut off from the world and got to really enjoy and take in the scenery. Which let me tell you there is a lot of beauty to take in up there. The first full day there we started out on a hike up to Vernal falls, and there were a few points where I wanted to turn back, the heights are extreme and I get vertigo from the second story at the mall. Needless to say everyone just told me to keep going and I was glad I did, the view from the top was astounding and it felt great to just finish it. Over the weekend we just explored as much as we could and in total I have 300 pictures to show for it. BTW I have now come to the realization that I love the looks of MOSS! Here are some pictures...

I guess they have really made it....
