Put your paws up little monsters!

Madonna of our generation, or just over all impressive performer? I say both, I don't think people really realize what an artist Gaga really is, from playing the piano, the guitar, dancing the entire time, singing live and maintaining a good pitch and tone is astounding. I don't think many people can get past how "weird" Gaga is to actually listen to her message and why she does what she does. She knows she is a freak show and last night all the freaks were out and she locked the doors so she said. The interaction she has with her fans is something that lacks in most arena concerts and in most performers, Gaga really appreciates everyone and makes you feel like you are in a more intimate setting. Calling people out on their costumes, t-shirts, and picking up and wearing or even eating what fans threw at her. Her message of self acceptance, self love and just being an individual is a powerful message and reaches ages. I saw people as young as 9 and people as old as late 60's dancing a long and being completely enveloped in the journey to the Monster Ball. If you ever have the chance to see her live take it, you will walk out having a lot of appreciation for a real artist, have some laughs, and walk out feeling pretty inspired. I've seen people from Timberlake, to Kanye West, to Britney Spears and this show is almost all of them in one .... minus the auto tune.

These are a couple of my favorite songs of hers. I think she changed about 8 times and even wore an animated moving dress that almost looked as if it was breathing.

A giraffe, some elephants, and a monkey penis

I am a planner, and tend to be a lil' anal retentive about planning. If you know me, you know this is true and I'm sorry if in planning mode I have bitten your head off. (ie wedding morning at Kim "It's my wedding" moment) In my marriage I have accepted the role of planner of events and such and tend to do it often, but the world turned upside down and Travis took it upon himself to plan an entire outing for me and it was a complete surprise. He booked the train tickets, and compared prices and planned his lil' heart out and I am/was so proud of him.

He told me I had to be up at 6:30 cause we needed to leave the house by 7:30 and no later and he said there is no being tardy. So hopped in the car and drove us to our first destination. I love taking the train and Travis has never been on a train so him planning this aspect was great no need to worry about who is driving (which is a constant battle in our marriage) or any traffic. By this time I was starting to get an inkling of where we were headed since the ticket said San Diego. He ended up telling me we were going to the San Diego Zoo which was awesome cause I haven't been there in forever and I love that place. We took a taxi to the zoo and had a great day walking around that monstrosity of a place. I forgot how giant it was and just how much walking that place entails but oh so worth it.

So proud of him for planning this outing for me and even more surprising me with it. It seems as the years go on you really do learn more about your significant other and truly go through phases where it almost feels like we started dating all over again and you just want to spend as much time with them as possible. This outing was a nice lil' reminder of why I love him and why he is my best friend.

Sooo When are ya'all gonna have kids...

This to me has become one of the rudest questions someone can ask. Since Travis and I have gotten married it seems as almost instantly as you say "I do" some overbearing family member is asking "so when are you going to have kids?" Why do we have to decide, why can't we enjoy each other first. And it seems as the time has passed the questions turn almost hostile and you hear them a lot more. "Why haven't you had kids yet," and at this point in my life it infuriates me. I myself have asked that question of other couples in relationships and I regret doing so, and probably will never ask again. You/I don't know a couples thoughts/feelings/ or even circumstances for having children and trust me now being in the situation I am in that line of questioning stings every time. Much like the feeling I get in my heart when I see a cute lil pregnant woman and the thought of the chance of never being able to experience that feeling. So the next time someone asks me "When are you going to have kids," my response shall be "When you let me borrow your uterus and ovaries thanks!"

Only time will tell and if it's God's will it will happen but for the time being hug your children, cherish those 9 months , and if you want we are free to babysit.

I went to Comic Con and all I got was this lousy pen.

I have now been back for 3 days and I am still hungover from Comic Con. The lack of sleep and the intense adrenaline and rush of the convention can really wipe you out at the end of it. Needless to say though I had a blast as always.

Day one for me was Thursday and we go in on the train which is honestly the way to travel to Comic Con, no need to worry about a car, parking or traffic. When we exited our train who did we see none other than lil' Kaley Cuoco and we knew it had begun. Wandered around downtown SD and made our way to the convention center, one thing to say about this years Comic Con was that Scott Pilgrim took over.

You couldn't look around without some sort of Scott Pilgrim advertisment being shoved down your throat (and I didn't mind) I was glad I had finished the series before so I could really enjoy what they had to offer from making personalized tshirts, to custom flipbooks, and awesome signings Scott Pilgrim was the ultimate. Edgar Wright also suprised Congoers with an exclusive screening of the movie 3 nights in a row and the cast was in attendance. At the Scott Pilgrim experience they even had a garlic bread truck which we all know SP loves garlic bread. Here are some photos from the event.

After Scott Pilgrim we headed back to the hotel and change because there is no place that can make you feel stinkier and stickier than Comic Con, it's just something about the air. Then we headed to the Machete party where it was free beers, tequila and a good ol' taco truck. We saw a few minutes of footage of the new Robert Rodriguez movie and let me say Michelle Rodriguez looks pretty bad ass. Robert, Michelle and Danny Trejo were all in attendance as well as this man we befriended. We all prefer to call him "Batchete" he was wearing a Batman mask and cape and a "Machete" tshirt. People seemed to get a huge kick out of a bunch of girls dancing with him and let me say "Only at Comic Con will you see that type of shit.

After the party and some sobering up (lol) we headed out to stake out some places and ended up getting pretty lucky and meeting everyone from Paul Wesley to Nelsan Ellis and seeing the likes of many others. Only Comic Con can you see Harrison Ford and Pauley Shore in the same day. Up next day two.... Same bat time same bat channel

My Nightmare

Went and saw the new "Nightmare on Elm Street" last night at a free screening. I tried to walk into the movie with little to no expectations since we all know that remakes usually never live up to the originals. Well the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake I thought was actually great and that was put out by Platinum Dunes also, but don't get to excited they are also the same company that put of the "Friday the 13th" remake.

The movie is thrown together kinda of like an unorganized hodgepodge of events. There is no real character development and you actually don't care about anyone in the cast. The new "Nancy" is this emo girl that is just not endearing and you don't care if she lives or dies, where as the old "Nancy" you actually liked her and you saw her growth throughout the movie. The pace of the film is all over the place and they seem to catch on to the events so quickly and just instantly believe they're all having this same dream about the same man and he's killing them in their sleep and everyone just so quickly buys into it. In the original it takes a lot of convincing for anyone to believe it's really happening, I mean Johnny Depps character doesn't believe at all, until it's to late. The climax is also just so anti climactic, and it wraps up so fast. I had read a lot of early trip reports about the movies and also reviews from test screenings and it sounds like a lot of scenes had been written and filmed and changed various times and a lot of scenes have been cut or altered from the first version. I would LOVE to see that version since they think this version they put out is an improvement.

Lets discuss Jackie Earl Hayley's rendition of Freddy Kreuger now there is no doubt that he is a great actor and does amazing jobs in his movies. But would you really be frightened by Rorschach w/ knives for fingers and a man that probably weights 130 wet and stands at 5'0? They have kept the details of his face tightly under wraps and I was excited to see how technology would change and hopefully improve his face. I think the makeup and effects were amazing but alas Robert Englunds makeup was better. This time around Freddy Kreuger does look more like a burn victim but he also has so many feline features it reminded me of the people from Stephen Kings "Sleepwalkers" This Freddy is a lot darker and there aren't "as many" Freddy jokes as in years past. But also they divulge into his back story and you learn a tad more about his history with children which was interesting and gave you the willies a lot more with the new Freddy. He wasn't as scary because of his appearance this time around but rather the history was of him was creepy.

Would I have been happy if I had paid for the movie, eh maybe. But Platinum Dunes, you fail again. This is one instance where I would rather watch the original. Robert Englund and Wes Craven for the win!

God makes amazing things

A few weeks back we took an impromptu trip up to Yosemite with some friends of ours. It was a really nice get away and it was quite convinient that the cell phone reception up there is really bad. So for a weekend I was pretty shut off from the world and got to really enjoy and take in the scenery. Which let me tell you there is a lot of beauty to take in up there. The first full day there we started out on a hike up to Vernal falls, and there were a few points where I wanted to turn back, the heights are extreme and I get vertigo from the second story at the mall. Needless to say everyone just told me to keep going and I was glad I did, the view from the top was astounding and it felt great to just finish it. Over the weekend we just explored as much as we could and in total I have 300 pictures to show for it. BTW I have now come to the realization that I love the looks of MOSS! Here are some pictures...

My best friend

Imagine living your life and at some points experiencing intense paranoia, to the extent that you have your daughter hide in the backseat of your explorer and video tape cars that are "following" you or having the feeling that people are constantly out to get you. It's enough to drive you mad, and be afraid to even leave the house, and even worse what if you believe the people are still getting to you in your own home. This is just part of the everyday struggle my Mom faces with her bipolar disorder.

There are different "intensities" of bipolar disorder and also other problems that go along with it, for instance bipolar disorder with schizoaffective tendencies. This is what my Mom suffers with and has for a very long time. Most families "hide" these issues but I am not embarassed by my Mom or ashamed of her. I'm quite proud of how positive she is, and how strong this has made her. When things are good with her disorder they are great but let me tell you when they are bad, they are awful. I have had birthdays where she hasn't been around, I use to never go to my friends houses when I was little because I was scared of leaving her alone, I have tried to console her on many occasions when she was balling her eyes out for no reason, or trying to convince her that there is no one out to get her. It hasn't always been so hard/dramatic..because before I really understood the disease and when she went into a "mania" it was one of the most fun times, she wouldn't sleep and had so much energy and she would take me on shopping trips and we would buy 2 of everything. I can not tell you how many stuffed animals I had when I was in fourth grade, it was ridiculous and it was all thanks to a mania episode. Also let me tell you how intelligent my Mom is and this one instance made my Papa so proud of her (but of course we couldn't tell her that at the time) a long time ago she was in the hospital and we use to give her change so she could call us and my Mom wanted out so bad that she disable the wards alarm system with a dime! And managed to walk right out the door but then into a security guard, but c'mon Mama Macgyver!

I love my Mom and she truly is one of my best friends and I am being pretty open with her disease but sometimes I think it's good to let it out there and help people understand. It's not always easy for her and it's not easy for us either, it truly breaks my heart all the time and when my Mom isn't well I really miss her.

Lowered Expectations

"Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get"- Mark Twain

I have always considered myself a pretty positive person, and I'm a strong believer if you think positive than you will have a positive outcome. Lately though I feel as being a "positive thinker" has kind of screwed me. As a positive person you usually expect the best of situations/people and as of lately it seems I'm being let down. Is it possible to be a positive person without expecting much of life or people?

Pussy Wagon

This song is my favorite song on Gaga's new album and when I heard they were making a music video for this I was so excited. There is so much epicness in this entire video; the fact they kill one of the most obnoxious tweeters ever (Tyrse), and the fact that they have Quentin Tarantino's Pussy Wagon as their mode of transportaion. Music videos are almost extinct now a days .. especially now that MTV has become more Reality television than music television (how I miss the days of "Making the Video", and Trl). But please enjoy the randomness that is Gaga.

And so the plot thickens, or not so much

Travis and I braved the rainy weather and drove our way to Hollywood to go see "Alice and Wonderland" at the El Capitan. To start off I was emailed the road closures and told to exit on Highland and park at the Hollywood and Highland structure, I did not expect as much traffic as there was and then we we finally made it to that effing structure they had decided to close it. Finally finding a janky ass parking lot we walked over to the El Cap, and the streets were so crowded. Now I tried to go in not expecting much because I was hearing ver mixed reviews. We took our seats got our popcorn bucket and the movie started I was aware this wasn't a classic Alice and Wonderland it was more representative of the books after Alice's first trip and of course it being a Burton telling would be different.

The graphics weren't bad but the darkness of the film tone combined with putting on 3-d glasses made the film uber dark and at times hard to see. There were a few of the typical 3d gags but not overdone, and some of the scenery was amazing. Now onto the bad I am a fan of Burton and Depp and usually feel they can't do much wrong. Mad Hatter was a mix of Willy Wonka, Sweeney Todd, and Jack Sparrow all in one and the accent Johnny adapted to the character was tough to decipher. The young girl who played Alice I felt was just drab, kind of one note and stale and the tone of her voice made me bored. It was a very lackluster story where I found myself just waiting for something to really happen and the build up to events were very underwhelming. Trav and I both left the theatre feeling a lil akward, like we just had witnessed an individuals very embarassing moment, which for Tim Burton I feel like this film was. Better luck next time!

Why Hollywood hates James Cameron..

Tonight I joined the cult fandom for James Cameron's "Avatar". I was finally able to unenthusiastically drag Travis out to see this spectacle with me. He of course was very hesitant as he usually isn't a fan of sci-fi movies at all, and I was honestly not expecting much.Even more so after all the hype for the movie and then the film getting such critical acclaim I wasn't really a fan because let's face it I just didn't understand.

When we received our obnoxious 3-d glasses I instantly was thinking wow this may be a horse of a whole different color, maybe a blue color perhaps!? We took our seats and as soon as it started I was in awe, the graphics were stunning. The way it was filmed and the imagery put in front of you made you feel like you were in the movie, and when they went on their adventures you were engulfed in the film. Which in my opinion made you more invested in the characters and the storyline. The colors were vibrant and beautiful and the scenery was out of this world. Now I'm not sure if people realize that this isn't all animated they actually did use the actors facial movements and body movements. The actors wore suits outfitted with sensors in a giant room filmed with cameras and completely imagined the scenes around them and acted them all out with nothing to reference. This turned out to make the "Navi" look so recognizable to their human actors. Zoe Saldana is amazing in the movie and I wish she would get more recognition for her role and this Sam Worthington guy well he aint to shabby himself.

To sum it up I am now an "Avatard" and understand all the hoopla that surrounds this wild journey of a film. And let me say even Travis the critic loved it and he and I both stated we kept waiting for "the typical cheesy 3-d gags" but alas they never showed up. The 3-d just made the film stand out it didn't define the film. This weekend we are going to see "Alice and Wonderland" in 3-d and "Avatar" has really raised the bar as far as 3-d films goes so lets see what you can dish out Alice.

I really want to, but

If you ever need some assistance in deciphering and identifying when a lie is being dealt your way, here are some indicators:

1. Any statement that begins with, "I really want to, but..."(if they really wanted to, they would)

2. Claim that "it's natural" (generally used to hide the fact that is not, in fact, natural in act or appearance)

3. Anti-puff anything (anything claiming to de-puff you is a gross over exaggeration and blatant false advertising)

4. "I've never done this before" (yes, they have, although I have said this and meant it but I commonly do things I've never done before and then learn to never do them again)

5. "You look nice today" (commonly used as an empty buffer before asking for or demanding something)

Sexy Sexy Beast

Finally some new Shia! Although it does look like this was worth the wait cause he looks so delicious, and hello bonus good ol' "Brand" (Josh Brolin) shares the screen with him. Just please ignore the girl in the film that he is now actually dating GAG. Oh I guess I have to give her credit since she's gotten so much award recognition this year for her role in "An Education." But hey still doesn't mean I have to like her.

I felt like it was the end of the world...

Last night I picked up the movie "2012," I usually enjoy these types of movies just for the special effects alone. Lord let me tell you at a running time of 158 minutes (2.6 hours) I felt like it was the end of the world. This movie would just not end, sometimes I can tolerate long movies if they are good and keep you invested. This just made me at times wish they would get swallowed up by the earth, or get hit by a lava cloud... I was actually rooting for them to die because guess what than it would at least be over. The acting was average and the effects I felt like they weren't even that great either. Ooo John Cusack please go back to romantic comedies, and Woody Harrelson just needs to stay out of the woods.

I was in the right place, at the right time

I find this man fascinating and brilliant

Such is human-nature. The man who drinks beer at home always criticizes the champagne, and finds fault with the Burgundy when he is invited out to dinner.

The OG Jack Skellington?

I recently rented the old Disney movie "Return to Oz" from back in good ol' 1985. I use to love this movie as a kid and would often pretend to be the adorable Fairuza Balk in this movie (yup the same old Fairuza Balk in "The Craft") How I wished, wait I still wish that there were those magical trees that had lunch pals hanging from the branches like fruit! Those could really help society, think about it... no one would ever go hungry! While watching the movie I was reminded of goofy but lovable "Jack Pumpkin Head" and he instantly reminded me of Tim Burton's Jack Skellington... odd coincidence? You should rent the movie and see what you think.
